Dr. Willliam Sabandar is the President of ITS Indonesia, a non-profit organization established as a forum for collaborations between government, industry players, academia, and communities to encourage the development and implementation of smart transportation and smart cities in Indonesia. Dr. Sabandar has extensive professional experience in both public and private sectors, covering various development fields that include transportation, renewable energy, forest and climate, debottlenecking development issues, disaster recovery, rural development, and corporate management. He served as the President Director of PT MRT Jakarta in 2016 - 2022 and led the establishment of the first metro system in Indonesia. He also used to hold several high-level positions such as the Chief Assistant at the Presidential Unit for Development Supervision and Control (2012-2014); Chief Operating Officer of the National Agency on Reducing Emission from Deforestation and Land Degradation (REDD+2014-2015); Chief of Nias Islands Recovery (2004-2009); and Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of ASEAN for Reconstruction of Post-Cyclone Myanmar (2009-2010). Currently, he also holds a formal position at the Indonesian Business Council (IBC) as the Chief Operating Officer. In addition to his role at IBC, he also occupies various top-tier positions in the private sector, such as becoming the President Commissioner of PT Interport Mandiri Utama – a world-class shore base operator and logistics solutions provider.
